SEOUL, South Korea — Han Jong-hee, Vice Chairman and co-CEO of Samsung Electronics, passed away on March 25, 2025, at the age of 63. His sudden death, resulting from a heart attack, occurred shortly after attending his daughter’s wedding. Han was instrumental in propelling Samsung to the forefront of the global consumer electronics market.
A Legacy of Innovation
Born on March 15, 1962, Han Jong-hee earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Inha University in 1988. He joined Samsung Electronics the same year, embarking on a career that would span over three decades. Han’s early work focused on television research and development, where he played a pivotal role in advancing Samsung’s display technologies.

Han’s visionary approach led to his promotion as Vice Chairman and co-CEO of Samsung Electronics in 2021. In this role, he oversaw the Device eXperience (DX) Division, encompassing consumer electronics and mobile devices. His tenure was marked by efforts to enhance user experiences through interconnected devices and AI-driven solutions.
At the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Han unveiled Samsung’s latest AI-driven home innovations, emphasizing personalized and secure multi-device experiences.
