March 28, 2025 — King Charles III, aged 76, was briefly hospitalized on Thursday morning after experiencing temporary side effects from his ongoing cancer treatment, Buckingham Palace announced. The monarch underwent a scheduled medical procedure earlier in the day, which led to the side effects necessitating a short period of observation in the hospital. Following this, he returned to his residence at Clarence House.
Engagements Postponed
As a precautionary measure and in accordance with medical advice, King Charles’s engagements for Thursday afternoon and Friday have been postponed. The Palace expressed the King’s apologies to those affected by the schedule changes.
Ongoing Health Journey
King Charles was diagnosed with cancer in February 2024 following a procedure for an enlarged prostate that revealed the disease. The specific type of cancer has not been disclosed. Since his diagnosis, the King has been receiving outpatient treatment and has continued to fulfill many of his royal duties.
Public Appearances and Future Plans
Despite his health challenges, King Charles has maintained a presence in public life. He made his first major public appearance post-diagnosis at the Easter service held at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, on March 31, 2024. In April 2024, it was announced that he would resume public-facing duties after making progress in his cancer treatment.
Looking ahead, the King and Queen Camilla are scheduled to undertake a state visit to Italy in April 2025, coinciding with their 20th wedding anniversary. Preparations for the visit are ongoing, and it is expected to proceed as planned.
