Marjorie Taylor Greene (born May 27, 1974) is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Georgia’s 14th congressional district since January 2021. A member of the Republican Party, she was elected following the retirement of incumbent Tom Graves and has been reelected in subsequent elections.
In March 2025, as chair of the House Oversight Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE), Greene led a contentious hearing scrutinizing federal funding for public broadcasting networks PBS and NPR. She questioned the necessity of allocating taxpayer dollars to these outlets, accusing them of promoting a “communist agenda” and “sexualizing and grooming children.” The hearing was marked by partisan disputes, with Republicans criticizing public broadcasting as propaganda, while Democrats defended it and mocked the focus on characters like Elmo and Cookie Monster.
Shortly after this hearing, Greene made headlines for her interaction with British journalist Martha Kelner of Sky News. When Kelner attempted to question Greene about leaked Signal messages concerning U.S. military operations in Yemen, Greene dismissed her, saying, “go back to your country,” and criticized her for focusing on U.S. issues instead of U.K. border problems. When an American journalist posed a similar question, Greene deflected by attacking the Biden administration’s border policies while defending the Trump administration’s performance.
Throughout her tenure, Greene has been a polarizing figure, known for promoting conspiracy theories and making controversial statements. She has been linked to beliefs such as QAnon and has made claims questioning the legitimacy of mass shootings and the events of September 11, 2001. Her actions have led to her removal from committee assignments in February 2021, though she was appointed to new committee roles in January 2023, including positions on the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Oversight and Accountability.
Despite controversies, Greene continues to be an influential and outspoken member of Congress, representing her constituents in Georgia’s 14th district.
